The company was founded in 1974 as a fencing contractor to companies in Cumbria, and it soon became one of the leading fencing companies in the UK for providing pipeline fencing.

In 1993 Juanita Watts (formerly Birkett) identified a gap in the market for the supply only of pipeline materials, and began to develop this side of the business, and soon Birketts were supplying materials to many of the leading gas pipeline companies in the UK and Ireland as well as internationally.

In the early 2000s, at the request of one of the UK leading pipeline companies at the time, Juanita began research into the sourcing and supply of Hardwood Bog Mats, the client having identified unreliable supply and quality issues within the industry. She was ultimately able to establish a reliable and efficient supply chain, and as a consequence, we soon became a major player in the Bog Mat industry.
