COMPANY PROFILE  The honey business of Miel Internacional started in 2011 as a development project betMIEL INTERNACIONAL INCen Bounty Fresh Foods and Ielgat VOF, in cooperation with the Dutch Agency EVD, nowadays RVO, as an initial project of 3 years. The development project was considered as a pilot under the PSI program(Private Sector Investment), registered with number PSI10/PH/ that is invested and committed to the long term growth and prosperity of apiculture or beekeeping in the Philippines. In addition, a honey production business on an industry scale did not exist before Miel Internacional was established, neither was a beekeeping culture present in the Republic of the Philippines.    The company was formed under the leadership of Mr. Tennyson Chen as a response to the overwhelming percentage of honey being imported into the Philippines. The Philippines imports roughly 90% of its consumption of honey and other by products every year in order to be able to keep up with demand. The company then invited the expertise of Ielgat VOF, a Dutch beekeeping company to take part in this start up and help grow the business. It aims is to create a sustainable and profitable business venture that will have inclusive benefits not only for the company but for all of its stakeholders such as farmers and beekeeping partners. It focuses on the production of honey and honey related products and services and has complete control of the supply chain from the breeding of the queens to the packaging and marketing of the final product.   Miel Internacional will initially focus on the retail jars of pure honey with the aims to deliver first class honey to consumers. Miel de Oro is the product name which provides a particular taste, colors and texture. In addition, it offers other value added products derived from beekeeping activities like propolis, beeswax, royal jelly and pollen and others.  It has also contract farming services intended for local farmers to establish modern and professional beekeeping livelihood in the Philippines as well as pollination services to local crops for better yield and food security.
