Company Description

Appeartex presents a new antibacterial concept with a unique patent pending chemistry and technical know-how that involves creation of a permanent surface modification for bacterial prevention. The input chemistry of Appeartex is a polycations which binds non-covalently and irreversibly to almost any materials and surfaces. Appeartex business idea is to integrate with selected companies and offer Appeartex AB customers a modification with Appeartex antibacterial chemistry on existing surfaces and products. This is conducted under the supervisions of our R&D manager PhD Daniel Persson and his colleagues. Appeartex has raised great positive interest I Swedish media and we have also at the same time been able to ally us with company advisors from the elite of Swedish Academia. For example we have Professor Bengt Norden from Physical Chemistry at Chalmers and former Chairman in the Nobel Committee in chemistry as well as Professor Krister Holmberg, Technical Surface Chemistry in our advisory board. We have recently also had the fortune to welcome Professor Thomas Nystrom, who is a well known and respected microbiologist at Gothenburg University. How it works: Appeartex chemistry functions as a flypaper for bacteria by collecting the micro organisms on the Appeartex-modified surface where the bacteria get stuck because of electrostatic attraction. The negative charge of the bacteria causes it to be drawn to and get stuck on the positive charge of the Appeartex modification, just as iron chips are drawn to a magnet. The bacteria are thereby stuck on the Appeartex surface and are held there by the permanent Appeartex charge on the surface. The bacteria are not released from the surface and can therefore not be spread to or contaminate the surroundings. In this way, the bacteria are controlled by charge and we do not have to use bad chemicals and antibiotics that may cause the bacteria to develop resistance besides destroying the environment.
