The Liberian civil crisis, which lasted for about fJ. C. Curley Memorial Health Centerteen (14) years, devastated every sector of the society. The medical sector remained virtually dormant during this period. Consequently, Liberians lived on hand-outs (relief assistance). The situation has not changed much. A good portion of the population both in the rural and urban areas can hardly afford to meet their health needs. The underlying factor responsible for this problem is that they are not receiving adequate income in the form of salaries to meet their social needs. Both rural and urban dwellers are therefore faced with hunger and poverty. Such appalling situation justifies the need for increased medical facilities and other activities such as income generation projects to accelerate the national economic recovery and reintegration program. The J. C. Curley Memoral Health Center was established in March 2012 and is idealy located in one of Monrovia&＃039;s densely populated communities where for the past decades has no health care facilities. It is against this background that we (a group of doctors, nurses, PA&＃039;s and other medical staff) see good reason to establish a health care center to cater to the needy. With the establishment of this health care centers, the community at large will no longer move a greater distance to seek medical attention.
