In 1998, in Shenzhen China, two engineers founded iSecureX Technologies Co., Ltd. iSecureX made a name for itself in China, selling smart card based solutions to SME, especially thousands of cybercafes, using smart card technology to make their business more manageable and profitable.

By providing great information security solutions for SME, iSecureX became a respected company in the information security industry. Then, in 2003, iSecureX was officially renamed Aeware and registered as Aeware International Limited in Hong Kong, after its domain name (isecurex.com) got lost. The character 'a' and 'e' in the new name mean authentication and encryption respectively, standing for the goal of the company: to be the authentication/encryption solution provider.
Today, Aeware offers a full spectrum of authentication and encryption technologies, hardware, software, and chips, all in the brand of Passbay:
