Company Description

The Ajaokuta Coal & Steel Corporation (also ACSC) is a Nigerian coal mining and steel manufacturing company located in the ancient town of Ajaokuta in Kogi state.Incorporated in 1974 and operational by 1976, ACSC was predated by the British Empire Steel Corporation (BESCO), which was a merger of the Ajaokuta Coal Company, the Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Company and the Nova Scotia Steel Company. ACSC was one of the largest private employers in Nigeria during the 1980s-1990s. In 1996, ACSC was purchased as a subsidiary of A.V. Roe Nigeria Ltd. and was later assumed in 2001 by Hawker Siddeley Nigeria. The company was recovered in 2007 after the majority of its coal mining and steel mill industrial assets in Industrial Ajaokuta, Kogi state Ajaokuta Coal & Steelre repurchased by the prestigious Dantata family under the ACSC Group umbrella.
