We look forward to hearing from you. Larry caruso. History: caruso music was founded in 1929 by a 17 year old aspiring musician named John caruso. John, a young teenager at the time, picked up an accordion in his hometown of heilwood, Penn and quickly became fascinated by the possibilities. It was 1929 and those were difficult times, the beginning of the great depression. Parents didn&＃39;t want their children to suffer the same hardships they were going through. They asked John to teach their kids how to play. He gave into the constant request and began instructing the neighborhood kids on the accordion. It was not uncommon for parents to pay John with their government subsidy check (today&＃39;s welfare) . Music was the children&＃39;s ticket out of a lifetime in the coal minesThe death of john&＃39;s uncle in what were daily mine accidents was the wake up for his mother. She didn&＃39;t want her sons ending up working the same dangerous hand to mouth job as her generation had. They packed up and moved to nyc. John opened what would become one of New york&＃39;s largest music schools, with over 1000 accordion students. The success was fulfilling but he was unsure about New York. It was 2: 30 am on a hot summer night in New York. John was trying to cool down his crying son by pushing him back and forth in the carriage in front of their apartment in queens. It was at that very moment he knew cement under his feet wasn&＃39;t working for him. The city was not in his blood. In the morning he and the family got into the car drove east until it turned into country. They made the first stop of the day their new home, bozrah, Connecticut. John began teaching accordion door to door and then opened a small studio in the neighboring town of norwich. That city served him well but the growth of the US navy in New London had much more promise. In 1963 New London became the new home for caruso music. Not long after opening at 25 main st a bakery fire next door forced the store to it&＃39;s next location at 20 bank st. Caruso music operated there from 1963 to 1995. They then purchased their newest and largest location at 94 state st. Caruso music continues to prosper in their new 22, 000 sq ft building. It is also home to caruso school of music, caruso&＃39;s piano moving and storage and caruso audio video install. The new building is also houses state street luxury apartments which the caruso family owns and operates. It&＃39;s our experience that earns your trust.
