Company Description

At Dakota Cactus Dakota Cactus make all-natural batches of handcrafted soap. Each bar of soap is manufactured and packaged right here in Richardton, North Dakota. The scents and colors for our soaps are inspired by the plant and animal life found in our region. We took the names for our soap varieties from historical and geographic figures that have had a lasting impact on this part of the Great Plains. Our products continue to evoke these rich traditions.

After making old-fashioned lye soap in living history programs for several years, I started my own business selling my luxurious handcrafted soaps. I based my recipe on my great-grandmother Julia's old-fashioned soap recipe that has been in my family for generations. I add lots of oils for a gentle soap that has a luxurious lather without being greasy.

I decided to name my business Dakota Cactus after the prickly-pear cactus that grows wild all over southwest North Dakota. Our headquarters in Richardton, North Dakota features an art gallery and studio for local artists to sell their work. We are proud to support and promote local and regional artists.
