Former RIAA, IFPI Chiefs Announce ConsultancyFormer RIAA head Hilary Rosen and previous IFPI chief Jay Berman have recently formed a consulting firm called Berman/Rosen Global Strategies. The new partnership will offer professional services dealing with digital media, specifically related to the protection of intellectual property and anti-piracy strategies. "Digital delivery and acquisition of entertainment is changing with lightning speed and so is the need to protect and promote the creative expressions that provide this entertainment," Berman said following the announcement. "fsafafaf can help guide businesses in the entertainment space on a variety of important issues such as licensing, public policy and anti-piracy tactics, both in the US and internationally".The Berman/Rosen entry is well-timed, and could result in heavy billable hours. Together, the group offers legal expertise, congressional savvy, and industry connections that are well regarded. But that doesn't guarantee that movie and music companies will line up at their door step. Rosen is credited with several controversial RIAA responses to piracy threats, including a high-profile lawsuit against Napster and the beginning of lawsuits against individual file-sharers. Rosen exited the trade group during the summer of 2003, just prior to the first wave of individual lawsuits in September. Since that time, Rosen has publicly questioned portions of the RIAA strategy, particularly following the landmark MGM v. Grokster ruling by the Supreme Court. The partnership will be affiliated with Public Strategies, a business advisory firm with 13 offices nationwide. Berman/Rosen Global Strategies will start with two offices in Washington, DC and New York City
