Company Description

Patel  Brothers  Services and Engineering was started   as a   partnershiop   firm known as Patel Brothers over 100 years ago. It was primarily  a cotton trading firm acting as agents, brokers and dealing in Spot and Futures Markets.  It was the first Indian firm to become a Member of the New York Cotton   Exchange. Subsequently, with an increase in business Patel Cotton Co. Ltd. was formed, which took over the entire cotton trading acti-vities of the firm and grew to become one of the largest firms  of  its kind in   the country. Subsequently,  in  the  60's   alongwith  Volkart  Ltd.  with  interests  in   shipping,  travel,  ginning and the  cotton trading  activities. Later there was merger  with  Gokak  Mills Ltd. to form Gokak Patel Volkart Ltd. which was quoted on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Patel   brother  in  the  meanwhile  had   taken  up  agencies  for   a  number  of  foreign manufacturers of industrial products. With the introduction of rigid controls on all imports it became necessary to commence manufacturing operations in India under licence from the  foreign  manufacturers,  in addition to this it made good business sense since lobPatel Brothers Services & Enginering Pvt. Ltd. costs  are  much  lower  in  India  than in the West. With this in view two  products were selected from amongst the agencies that had the most potential and where our presence in  market  was  strong.  Cottonseed/Sunflower preprocessing machinery in collaboration with  Murray  Carver  Inc.  (USA)  where  we  have  over 95% of the market share in India. Industrial Barrier  Creams  for  the  skin in collaboration with Kerodex Ltd. (UK). Here we have over 90%  of  the  market  share  for these preparations. In all our products we have been the pioneers starting up and building the market.
Substantial  interests   were  also  acquired  in  plastics,  pharmaceutical  and  consumer products corporations.
