Sillanwali, an eminent place for woodcraft, is located 35 km in south to Sargodha city; Sargodha district has been famous for its agriculture.It is also known as the city of falcons. Citrus fruit is the most important agricultural product of this land. Sargodha is considered best citrus fruit producing land in the world. Citrus fruit is exported to the international market and majority of the local inhabitants earn their livings through citrus business (farming, polishing, packing etc.).Other important crops of area are sugarcane and wheat. word sillanwali is the combination of two punjabi words”sillan”and “walli”sillan means bricks and over all its mean the place where bricks are being preparred in immence ratio.In the past exactly bricks had been preparred in vast ratio.Sillanwali town was developed by British government in 19th century to promote agricultural linkages through newly developed irrigation (canal) and railway system. Majority of population at that time was Hindu so after partition they Sillanwalire replaced by Muslim migrants who came from district kernel, Indian state Hiryana. They brought wooden lacquer art with them a beautiful art introduced by ustad karmi from Hiryana in start of 18th century.whereas wood carving was started here in early 80’s.
