On February 2011, Newgrid has merged with Smec Inc. that had machinery equipment business area, with Newgrid's communication business department, yielding a new business department of machinery business department. The communication business sector of Newgrid is run by researchers who have worked in the field of information and communication industry such as Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).

The main products that are being researched and developed are Signaling Gateway, Trunk Gateway, and Media Gateway products, which all are core components for the first generation communication network (BcN: Broadband Convergence Network). The components are delivered to the clients of communication industries like Korea Telecom (KT) further proving the technology of Newgrid, and the business area is so called "Innobiz" field.

The main customers in domestic market are mainly communication industries like KT, KTF, SKT, and LGT. Recently Newgrid is aiming for the global market, and has won numerous bids in the global competition, starting to provide the next generation communication network devices to clients in Asia and Europe, including Japan.

Over 40% of the staffs and board members are technology experts in Newgrid, and this type of high-end information technology-based company can adapt to ever changing information and communication market with its original capability of technological innovation and speed.
