I. SUNY 3D Makers Goal

The final objective for this project is to construct an effective and profitable EC business model by commercializing the present 3D-synthesizing technology.

II. Our Motivation

Most of people are accustomed to taking some photos and uploading them to their own Facebook or Twitter. They enjoy their neighbor?s recent comments or reactions. That?s it. There seems nothing more special than that. However, what if we can make those pictures into 3 dimensional construction? To be more specific, what business opportunities can we expect if a massive number of individual photo holders can actually want to change their photo images into 3D-model sketches or tangible structure models? Our team senses a business possibility from this 3D synthesizing technology. It is going to change present communication type and make people get more closely each other. So by using it, our group wants to find new type of business model in Ecommerce and we expect that our ideas will make new market in EC.

III. Technological background

In 2006, as part of his PhD studies at the University of Washington, Snavely made a system that could assemble such models using images from different cameras and viewpoints. In 2008 his work was commercialized as Microsoft's Photosynth service, which allows users to upload photo collections and view them in a 3-D reconstruction of the space where they were taken. Snavely has even used his technology to reconstruct the city of Rome from the wealth of amateur images available online. By using countless photos on the internet, turns three-dimensional reality into a two-dimensional image. Noah ?navely who invented this technology is taking those images from the internet and using them to create 3-D digital models of structures ranging from individual products to entire cities.
