WIZnet has realized software-based communication protocol (TCP/IP) into hardwired IP for the first time in the world. TOP is WIZnet Co.,Ltd. representative brand. Its core technology, which makes internet access possible with a single chip rather than the previous PC-based Internet access technology, can substitute for MCU-based Internet technology. It is protected by patent.

Currently, most internet connections are based on OS and TCP/IP software with a 32-bit MCU. It is quite costly and cases many problems when the terminal is rebooted. However, WIZnet solution based an 8-bit ASIC chip is free from such problems. After all, this solution that does not need any OS guarantees various advantages (i.e. stability, easy implement, economical efficiency, speedy processing, etc.)

WIZnet has been providing ATMEL, a top-10 MCU maker, with its MCU-based development kits and component modules on an OEM basis since Sep. 2002. In order to implement component modules with the function of internet-turned processor (jointed with ATMEL?s MCU) on SoC(system on chip), WIZnet has entered into a contract to license Hardwired TCP IP(intellectual property) to ATMEL.

WIZnet will develop and manufacture OEM products for Atmel, around Atmel's embedded Flash microcontrollers. These products -Atmel provides these products by the name of "LAN51H"- including development kits and network modules for Internet connectivity, are integrating WIZnet's TCP/IP hardwired chip. The primary applications target remote data gathering such as utility meters, as well as POS, card reader, barcode scanner, electronic scale, web-camera, DVR and VoIP wares
